Shipwreck Zante – Navagio

The most beautiful beach of Zakynthos and one of the five or six most photographed beaches of all Greece.  Accessible only by sea, it gives you the idea of hugeness and perfection.  It consists of millions of small pebbles with the blue shades of the sea as far as the eye can see, it results unique in its gender and the relict looks like if it was made by an artist.

The Shipwreck beach is a creation of Nature and a naval accident under fictional conditions. The seismogenic western coasts of Zante and the deep waters of the Ionian Sea are responsible for this magnificent beach.

The naval accident is the shipwreck of the merchant ship Panagiotis, who on 30 September 1982 illegally loaded with boxes of tax-free cigarettes, stunned the beach. This unique combination of the untouched by the human hand beach and the rusty ship in its midst created the most photographed theme in Zakynthos.

For those who want to admire the beach with the wreck from above, they have to reach the monastery of Saint George of Grevena. Just below the monastery there is an iron rig hanging in the void, from where you will admire the beautiful beach with the wreck and the rugged coasts.
